Use during pregnancy and lactation

In experimental studies on animals, it has been shown that the administration of GCS in high doses to females can lead to deformities in the fetus. Since no relevant studies of the effect of GCS on human reproductive function have been conducted to date, the use of these drugs during pregnancy, in nursing mothers or women of childbearing age requires an assessment of the likely positive effect of the drug in comparison with the potential risk to the mother, embryo or fetus. GCS should be prescribed during pregnancy only for absolute indications. GCS easily penetrate the placental barrier. Children born to mothers who received GCS in high doses during pregnancy need a thorough examination to identify possible symptoms of adrenal hypofunction. The effect of GCS on the course and outcome of childbirth is unknown. GCS are excreted in breast milk, therefore, if it is necessary to prescribe the drug Medrol during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued.

Contraindications

Systemic fungal infections. Systemic infections in cases where specific antimicrobial therapy is not prescribed. Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug or methylprednisolone in the anamnesis. Administration of live or live attenuated vaccines is contraindicated in patients using GCS in immunosuppressive doses.
