What is a Vasotek?

Vasotec (enalapril) is an ACE inhibitor. ACE stands for the enzyme that converts angiotensin. Important information

Do not use Vasotec if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away. You should not use Vasotec if you have ever had angiodystrophy.  Enalapril can affect your heart or your electrolyte levels. Call your doctor if you have chest pain, pounding heartbeat or fluttering in the chest, slow heart rate or weak pulse, feeling of shadows, muscle weakness or muscle density or compression.

Before taking this medicine

You should not use Vasotec if you are allergic to enalapril, or if you have: History of angiodystrophy; or If you are allergic to any other ACE inhibitor, such as benazepril, captopril, fosinopril, lisinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, ramipril or trandolapril. If you have diabetes, do not use Vasotec together with any medicine that contains aliskiren (Amturnide, Tekturna, Tekamlo). You may also need to avoid using Vasotec with aliskiren if you have kidney disease. To make sure Vasotec is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: Kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis); liver disease; History of a blood clot or stroke (including a “mini-stroke”); Electrolyte imbalance (for example, high potassium levels in the blood); or Heart failure or congestive heart failure (unless you are taking enalapril for this condition). Do not use if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away. Vasotec may cause harm or death to an unborn child if you take the medicine during your second or third trimester. Enalapril can enter breast milk and can harm a nursing baby. You should not breastfeed while using Vasotec.
