What is Zestril?

Zestril (lisinopril) is an ACE inhibitor. ACE stands for the enzyme that converts angiotensin. Zestril is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children who are at least 6 years old. Zestril is also used to treat congestive heart failure in adults or to improve survival after a heart attack.

Important information

Do not use Zestril if you are pregnant. This can harm the unborn child. Stop using this medicine and tell your doctor right away if you get pregnant. If you have diabetes, do not use Zestril together with any medicine containing aliskiren (for example, Amturnide, Tekturna, Tekamlo).

Before taking this medicine

You should not use Zestril if you are allergic to lisinopril or to any other ACE inhibitor such as benazepril captopril, fosinopril, enalapril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, ramipril or trandolapril. If you have diabetes, do not use Zestril together with any medicine containing aliskiren (Amturnide, Tekturna, Tekamlo). You may also need to avoid using Zestril with aliskiren if you have kidney disease. You should not use Zestril if you have hereditary angiodystrophy. To make sure that Zestril is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: Kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis); liver disease; diabetes; or High levels of potassium in the blood. Do not use Zestril if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant, stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor right away. Zestril can cause harm or death to an unborn child if you take the medicine during the second or third trimester. Use effective birth control by taking Zestril. It is not known whether lisinopril passes into breast milk or if it can harm an infant. You should not breastfeed when using Zestril.
